Invention of the Hoodie

How the Hoodie Was Born (and Why Ours Belongs at the Cottage)
Let's talk hoodies. We all love them—throw one on after a swim, pull the hood up on a breezy dock morning, or cozy up in one by the fire with a cold drink. But have you ever thought about where the hoodie actually came from?
Turns out, it wasn't made for lounging or style at all. The first hoodie popped up in the 1930s thanks to Champion (formally known as the Knickerbocker Knitting Company), and it was designed for workers in freezing cold warehouses in New York. Nothing fancy—just a warm, tough layer to help them get through the day. Totally utilitarian.
Then athletes got into them. Boxers, football players, anyone training in the cold. Fast forward a few decades and boom—hoodies became a full-blown vibe. Skaters, musicians, and everyday folks started wearing them for comfort and attitude. Now? They're a staple. Pretty much everyone has that one hoodie they grab for everything.
That's exactly what we set out to make—a new go-to hoodie, made for the cottage. Something soft and cozy, but still tough enough to handle late nights, early mornings, and everything in between. It's got that classic relaxed fit, premium fleece you'll want to live in, and the kind of quality you expect from Illbury+Goose.
We designed it with dock days, fire pits, and cottage weekends in mind. Just throw it on and go.
The cottage hoodie is here—made for real life, made in Canada.
